So doing a new build but for first time ever I'm not using any HDD's. I'm going to have two 2.5" SSD's mounted on back of case. So my question is in regards to number of fans needed. I have a Kraken NZXT AIO for my CPU which will be mounted on top and one rear exhaust fan. So for the front I have 3 120mm thermaltake fans. I'm going to use the two for the top and middle but do I need that third one for bottoms since I won't have any HDD's to cool? Here is my case.

You don't need it and tell you what. Take the bottom front fan and place it just in line with the PSU shroud and I think that will be more effective at providing your graphics card with fresh air than with 3 fans in the front. So you'll have one fan providing air to the VRM area and the radiator and one for the graphics card. Sounds sensible?

Great case!

When I built my PC last year using the 4000D, I ran some tests with 0,1,2,3 front fans. I’ve since altered my fan profiles & changed my CPU fan (& perhaps more but can’t recall), but here’s some stats you can use as reference…

Under Load…

3 x Front fans-GPU under load

‘Quiet’ Fan Profile for CPU/Case fans. GPU fans @ default restricted PWM threshold (66%)…

  • CPU (120mm x1); 1010RPM
  • Rear exhaust (120mm x1); 642RPM
  • Top exhaust (120mm x1); 635RPM
  • Front intake (120mm x3); 567RPM
  • GPU (80mm x2); ~1567RPM
