If someone can help me with this I would be eternally grateful as the operator for apple support the moment I told him he age of my mbp seemed less than interested. Purchased said MBP off eBay for parts and repair to repair anything i owned. Checked it over to see all it needed was memory and hdd. Flashing file symbol (issue sorted) but in doing so I ran in to a fault with my keyboard and mouse pad.

youtube said to reset nvram which only shut down my mbp and ended up bricking with the laptop. Now all I have is the no entry symbol

any ideas

You likely need to reinstall macOS

unfortunately when I spoke to apple online this is what they recommended. Which didn’t work. Somehow due to resetting the nvram it blocked, my mbp.

So you bought a broken MacBook from ebay "for parts" and now you're wondering why it's broken? I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, Just trying to lay this out straight

I only needed a battery and keyboard from it which would have been cheaper. I’m only put it together out of curiosity. If I can get it to work with the extra arts I have, or extra purchased parts to sell on. Great, if not, no problem. I still have another 2 or 3 I’m working on

Unfortunately not. I’ve even tried swapping out hard drives now. Same result. YouTube shows the same result -shift, option, command, R, power.

However it go to desktop previous as mentioned when I had the fault with the keyboard and mousepad.

don’t know if that helps

Ok so that's probably a firmware issue then, not sure how you might go about fixing that. If there's a way to flash firmware to the MacBook then that would be it.

Thanks for the reply. No problem. If it’s no more than what I expected. At least I got what I wanted out of it (battery, ram etc)

  • 1 month later...

I modded plenty 2008-2012 MacBooks.

If I get this right, you installed the HDD and Ram of a broken machine into your 2009 MacBook and the keyboard/trackpad stopped working ?

Resetting the PNVRAM didn't work ?

External keyboard/mouse didn't work ?

Wired external keyboard/mouse not working ? do wireless ones work ?

if you hold Alt(option) when booting on any keyboard do you get the startup disk utility(see if the boot system receives any input)

if option works, try an SMC reset as well!

Try a different battery, I have no idea why but this has fixed the issue for me (and several others which I learned this from) in the past

another trick is to install the Apple Hardware Test on your drive,

You might have a board level repair on your hands. first thing I do when I inspect a board is look for(and replace) bad capacitors.

Good luck, happy learning
