Supply power using USB PD

Go to solution Solved by HanZie82,

You might want to start here: https://www.instructables.com/DIY-USB-Type-C-Power-Delivery-Trigger-Board/

But i hope you are competent at soldering electronics together.

As i think the best choice is to make something that takes the 20V constantly then use switched buck convertors to change the voltage to what you need.

As in have a 12V AND a 5V convertor so you have both.

Do note this will make it lose the USB-PD fucntion on that cable/connection.

So if you want USB-C connection with its own PD you will have to make/find a circuit that works the same as inside PC or chargers etc. And make your own USB-PD connection.

Also i would suggest just getting the power-bank that has these connections to start with. Way easier.

IN SHORT: I want to take USB Power Delivery 12 or 20 volts, plug into black box, and get multiple outputs like 12V + 5V + 24V(?) for multiple devices. I'm searching for this black box.

LONGER: I have a power bank capable of USB Power Delivery up to 20V/45W. I also have a camera rig that's growing into new power hungry components that use multiple connectors (and voltages?).

for example:

-micro usb 5v camera

-usb c (maybe fast charging capable) gimbal

-in future 12V dc jack screen

I'd love to be able to get this power bank, plug it into some kind of power supply that would split it's power into different voltages so i can connect it allto one portable power source.

I'm aware that device like that may not exist, so any DIY tips? i know i can use step-down's to get voltages that i want and all, but i don't know most important thing: how to interface with power delivery standard. I mean, is there any board or sth that can tell: "hey, I see usb c. can i get something else than 5V? Yes? So give me 20V" I know laptops do exactly that, but i have no idea if is it even possible using cheap device?

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

I was not planning using USB-PD after that so it won't be an issue

Well, probably would be easier. But if I'm asking for DIY tips I'm not hoping for easier soulution. Where would be fun in it 😉

Hahaha touché!

So true, and my apologies for doubting your DIY-ness. 😄
