Help me with tablet OS

So i found my old samsung tablet in my room, Im trying to get it to be useful again but its just very laggy. I think its the old operating system it runs on android version 4.2.2.

But when i click on software update it says connection error with server or something like that. How do i fix it?

The device is no longer supported by Samsung. The thing about Android, unless you get devices directly from Google, they dont run straight Android. Each company like Samsung has its own version with its own bells and whistles added. Most Android devices at least back when I used them, got maybe 1 or 2 OS updates during their life. The point, your not updating that to the latest Android OS, at least not thru Samsung. The fact is that OS dates back to 2013 and Samsung was notorious for 2 years of support and then cut it from support. I know the FTC leaned on them to provide security updates for longer, but there are not many Android drives that have long term support. Long term being like the 5+ years Apple provides. 

 

You can see if you can install a 3rd party rom, but Im no expert when it comes to flashing roms on devices.
