Will this build fit everything? The home server should be located in the living room and should be as silent as possible.

At the moment there are 4 3,5 HDD in future i want to upgrade to 8 HDD

What OS will you be running? I would consider adding more RAM potentially. And if the i5 comes with a heatsink you can likely just use the one it comes with. The system won’t get very warm because it won’t be under much load.

I run a ESXi host with truenas, multiple Ubuntu sever VM’s, many docker containers, a windows LTSC vm, all on a core i3 2 core 4 thread chip and it usually sits around 10-30% CPU usage… your i5 will not be trying very hard so the stock fan will be plenty.

Depending on OS, your 1TB nvme drive may be pointless. But that entirely depends on what OS you are planning to use.

Since virtual machines like a lot of RAM and a lot of cores this build won't cut it.

If you are okay with a noisy used server you can buy this:

https://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/hp-cloudline-cl3100-g3-1u-12x-3-5-lff-4x-2-5-sff-configure-to-order?c_b=36842

20 cores,40 threads

256GB of DDR4 2133MHz RAM.

That is one hell of a server.

The cost is 822.07 €
