Hello folks,

I am looking for the best storage medium for storing long term photos like my sisters wedding photos or my father in-laws pictures and videos of his kids. Me personally I use cloud bucket storage and offline hard drives. But I'm wondering what I should get for none technical people.

I remember years ago reading of this glass etching thing being researched that would keep thing stored for thousands of years. Obviously over kill for my short lifespan but it'd be a peace of mind storage.

Final question. Does a perfect storage medium for special memories exist already?

Perfect? No.

All mediums have their positives and negatives. Those that can store more or last longer, run the risk of obsolescence and/or cost concerns. Mediums that are more ubiquitous are more prone to failure or offer smaller capacities. Cloud services, while convenient in some ways, run the risk of disappearing for a plethora of reasons and are less private.

So, as in gifting something that non-technical people can use for backing up memories?

Honestly, while there are USB tools being sold that make backing up from phones and PCs quite simple, teaching them would probably go a longer way and give them more flexibility.
