New build troubleshooting

Hi all,

 

After about 5 months of saving up i finally managed to build my new PC last Friday, it worked for a day and a half then this morning it wouldn't power up at all. I tried different power strips, cables and outlets but nothing seems to be working, the fan on the psu wont spin and there's no lights on inside the case when its plugged in either. i also gave the motherboard a good look-over and it didn't look like anything was wrong with it. The current psu is a EVGA supernova 850w sfx 80 plus gold, i checked several websites on the power consumption for all my parts and the highest i got out of 4 sites was a 680w recommendation so i don't think that was the issue either. I think/hope its just a bad power supply but i definitely would like some feedback just for a peace of mind that its not a bad board

Did you try doing the paperclip test to see if the PSU is bad? I believe some EVGA units don't spin the fan up until it's at a certain usage amount, but since that one includes a self tester (effectively the same thing as the paperclip test) it should be able to turn on if the PSU isn't dead. 

 

If the fan on the PSU spins, then I'd assume that something about the motherboard gave way. Rule out the case's power button by using the surface mount switches. 

 

If the fan doesn't spin, contact EVGA and see what they can do.

The switch on the power supply itself is turned on, right? Check that and if that doesn't fix it, check your connections on both ends of each cable to make sure that they're secure.

Yeah i ran through all of the base line troubleshooting already lol i even swapped cables and tried two different power strips/plugging directly into the outlet itself

So i swapped PSU's and nothing changed
