Keyboard switch repair

Go to solution Solved by minibois,

Any type of translucent housing MX Blue knockoff (or a real Cherry) should work. If you're fearful the new switch doesn't feel exactly like the other ones, you can also desolder the Pause or Scroll Lock keys (two very much unused keys by most people) and replace the 'E' key with that and put the new switch in place of Pause/Scroll Lock

I got a Magegee MK 1 keyboard as a hand me down and the "1" key doesn't work properly. It wont respond until after a couple of mashes later.

After watching the LTT video where Linus fixes his wife's keyboard ive decided to do the same and replace the switch.

The only problem is im not sure what switches to replace it with. Jixian Blues are what is currently in it but it doesnt look like you can buy them. Now im wondering if i can put in a Gateron, Outemu, Kailh or Cherry switch, the only problem is that i don't know if it will work.

Any Advice?20211219_171506.thumb.jpg.7adbcd1dbb7e2fbe5d6cd24cfc570275.jpg20211219_171445.thumb.jpg.933a152bd890f1a8cad17dd85290069a.jpg20211219_162824(0).thumb.jpg.d6fce948b439e6e9e00f947682aa39f8.jpg

Yes.

As long as they follow the MX style and are made for RGB/clear top housing.

I.E as long as they are an MX Cherry Knock off they should still work?

I wouldn't mind.

Not a bad idea, i might just do that then.

one question. Is it a good idea to replace my WASD switches with Cherry Reds? i want to know what reds feel like in day to day use but the idea of red and blues on the same keyboard seems kinda dumb🙃

Personally I wouldn't like that, but that is partially because I type more often than I game.

You should do what you want to do, but it's certainly not something I'd recommend doing I guess!

Fair enough, I'll just repair it and hand it over to my cousin and buy a Red Switch keyboard.

Not a fan of the White & Blue LED color anyways.
