RAID 1 with External HDDs

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

You really don't want to use motherboard raid, it inda sucks.

That motherboard raid is only for sata ports(and sometimes nvme), its not for usb drives or drives connected to other controllers.

Id just use backup software to keep the drives in sync or make backup images. This is normally much better at protecting data than raid. Id use veeam here.

So my motherboard (Gigabyte B550 Vision D) supports RAID 0, 1 and 10, and I want to make a RAID 1 setup with 2 external HDDs (4TB).

I want to use it as a backup drive, and I want to use RAID 1, because if one dies, I still have the data.

Can I do it in windows? If yes, can I use it for backup?

If there’s a program for that, can you please say me the name?

I used Windows Backup in settings, but I don’t think it supports multiple drives.

Is veeam working with multiple drives?

If no, is there any programs that works (so that it makes a backup to both drives at the same time)?

Yea veeam should be able to do it.

Or have 2 different backup programs for each drive.

Id also suggest you only have one drives plugged in at a time. That way there is no way for malware or ransomware to delete backups.

Ok, I’ll test it. My AdBlocker says I can’t go to any site except the homepage of veeam, but I’ll see it on my PC.

I saw a button “Download Trial Version” or something like that. Is it free or do I need to pay?
