Summary

An outage at aws us-east-1 has been affecting services the world over. Services like canva, ring, IMDb, duolingo, venmo, roku, kindle, tinder, disney+ etc and games like Valorant, Clash of Clans, PUBG, league of legends etc have all been affected by the outage. This is not the first time that us-east-1 has experienced problems, bringing down many EC2 instances in September, and aws kinesis being down in November.

Quote

The cloud company has acknowledged the outage, saying: "We are experiencing API and console issues in the US-EAST-1 Region. We have identified root cause and we are actively working towards recovery. This issue is affecting the global console landing page, which is also hosted in US-EAST-1. Customers may be able to access region-specific consoles going to https://console.aws.amazon.com/. So, to access the US-WEST-2 console, try https://us-west-2.console.aws.amazon.com/"

My thoughts

I was talking to an amazon engineer once, and they had a really funny anecdote. Since their primary in-company communication platform used aws, hence they would have log in problems with it in an outage. So during an outage in 2017, they couldn't talk to each other for a few hours!
