Is a CX430M enough to power an i5 4430 and an R9 280(non-X)?

nah, would at least go 500-550

IIRC 280 is 7950 equivalent, and the i5 is pretty power efficient

Could it work? Yea probably. Should you do it? No not in my opinion. Was annoyed with people recommending 850W power supply's for single GPU setups and now people saying CX430's are good for 7950's? The CX430M has ONE 6-pin for a reason. It's meant to power something like a 7770/7790/7850.

 Yup for sure. I've been using a CX600M in my PC for the last few months and i have a overclocked 8320 (uses a lot more power than the i5) and a 7970.

i would go 600w to have some headroom and to save psu later down the line
