I am buying Dell XPS 15 (9510). This supports m.2 NVME PCIE SSD. Can I use Samsung 980 pro 2 TB SSD in the additional slot? I am not into gaming, probably some video editing and coding. Would 980 pro be an overkill? What are descent SSD options have I got? Any system bottleneck that would prevent utilizing the high read and write speed of 980 pro? Many thanks.

Yea the 980 pro will work.

THe 980 pro would be way overkill, something like a sn550 or 660p is probably what Id get here, you don't need that much io for video editing(unless your doing crazy bitrate stuff) or most coding.

Many thanks. Crucial ones are half as pricey. Are their heat management / longevity good?

tbh they will all likely be fine, the 980 pro uses MLC flash which does have higher write endurance but thermally is probably no different. As far as the NAND flash being MLC or TLC you probably won't be able to tell the difference, TLC will still take a really long time to wear out like 95% of people do not need an MLC drive. I do use some smaller MLC drives myself but only in my server as a write cache as they have data written to them and moved off constantly
