Looking for a M.2 drives

Go to solution Solved by Jonathan Lee,

There is a really good deal on a gen 3 nvme with dram cache on best buy right now. Here's the link:

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/xpg-gammix-s11-pro-2tb-m-2-pci-e-internal-solid-state-drive-agammixs11p-2tt-c/15176731?irclickid=WEnQ5%3AwMYxyIT5FR3iTg1UrOUkG2RkS6yQxLSM0&ref=affiliate&utm_content=79301&utm_source=IR&acmp=PCPartPicker&utm_term=898179&irgwc=1

2TB, Dram cache buffer, slc caching, all the works. This would be an excellent boot drive. Also, has 1 TB version if you want.

2TB games drive options:

Crucial MX500

Samsung 870 QVO (has a 4TB version on a really good sale 😄 if you really want to not care about storage for awhile )

Western Digital WD Blue

Budget (including currency): Around 450$ CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: One drive for OS, the other for gaming

Other details : The picture below shows my PC parts from my computer. Over the last 2 years that I had this computer I been having a problem on start up and I been noticing that my OS drive the Adata SX6000 health is slowly getting worst ( at the moment it's at 70%), as this was my first build there were some mistakes that I did, that I didn't know at the time, and I'm planing to fix them. I'm not a expect and I have looked at the SSD/ NVMe  tier list, I just need help choosing a OS drive and a Game Drive as I'm also changing the MB to a Asus ROG Strix X570-I and I can see from PCpartpicker website that it supports 2 NVMe drives. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you plan on actually needing 8TB of space? Having 1 massive HDD like that is a bit risky. I'd suggest a Samsung 980 1TB as a baseline and additional 870 QVOs as needed like @Jonathan Leerecommended.

All the part you see on that list are in my computer right now, I did change the 8TB to a 6TB and it's about 67% full, with games, pictures, and old school work I liked. I do want to get a 2TB NVMe drive for gaming as it would for my main games I play a lot of, with my 6TB being games that I play casually.

Didn't see you mention that, my bad. That S11 deal looks great for what you're asking, so I'd swap that for the 980, but I still heavily encourage migrating off a HDD that large. You don't have room for redundancy & we call them spinning rust for a reason.

So I should just get a normal SSD for gaming and use a NVMe for my boot drive even if I have 2 slots on my MB. That's good to know, but do I really need a 2TB boot drive for windows 10? wouldn't a 500gb be good enough for a boot drive?

Asus ROG Strix X570

Uneccesary and overpriced, you def need to swap the board cause b350 but any decent b550 like the b550a pro/gaming plus or extreme4 will prob be enough, heck if you really want a cheap board even a pro4 or pro vdh would prob suffice as long as you dont overclock and im pretty sure any sensible person doesnt just ram a sht ton of volt into their cpu for very little gain

Ssd wise if you want a cheap gen4 then 1tb z440 ssds are going for ~125$ now

If you just need a gen3 then go for a z330 as those are ~80$

Unfortunately B550 MB doesn't support my CPU as I have no plans to change my CPU in there market that we have right now. I was thinking of the X570 because I know that it supports up to 5000x series AMD CPU so I should be easier to get one of does at a later date. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well atleast get a cheaper x570 mobo cause rog strix is uneccesary and you will most likely not need those vrms, even if you do oc you arent gonna get far on zen+

Then what MB so I get in that case, The computer case I'm using is a Silverstone FTZ01 so only a Mini-ITX can fit in it.

SilverStone FTZ01 INTRODUCTION

I consider 500MB the minimum for a Win 10+ system drive. It hosts most applications and user files. Over time system directories accumulate drivers and libraries. It typically hosts the swap file and Windows updates. It is a very busy unit. A larger unit will likely have a longer lifetime as writes are spread across more cells. While 2TB is on the high side, it is not usually excessive.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I'd just get the 2 TB nvme drive and store everything there. You don't really need a separate drive in my opinion.
