Budget (including currency): 1500-2000

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly for games like LoL, COD, and work/school work, opening 2-3 pages for stock. I wont "abuse" it really.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I got this list done after some research! Tell me what you think dudes and dudettes. I am open for any suggestions, is the setup optimal? is there something to change? am I paying too much? Tell me everything on your mind!

Thank you :)

For reference, I will not be doing high end activities with that computer, just take a couple zoom meetings for work, write up emails etc.. For gaming, I will mainly play Osrs, Lol, Cod, Sports game. I wont be streaming.

And as my man Doggo mentionned, these are in CAD

so depending on what graphics you want i can recomend stuff. If you want cod medium graphics, get maybe a 2070 or something and maybe an i5 11400. Look at benchmarks with cheap gpus. Also I reccomend buying maybe a used gpu and cpu because you can get a pretty good discount on those types of things on ebay. If you like graphics and great frames then go for rtx but if you want cheap and good frames get a gtx 1650 or 1660. If you want to get any cheaper, you can find room for improvment with either a cheaper monitor. Also, if you do have a budget but want good preformance then I reccomend that you could get a prebuilt. You also need to buy wires, thermal paste, and look up how to build a computer if you do want to, and even if you can make a fail and not even notice it.  (I found a good prebuilt for you https://www.newegg.com/abs-ali510-master/p/N82E16883360110R?quicklink=true

-ps, older cod games need less graphics stuff. I think that i was assuming that you would play like warzone or vanguard, if you want to play like mw2 or something then read my other comment

Sounds good buddy! that was very detailed I appreciate that,

If I want to make a comparison with what you presented and my build, basically aim for used gpu/cpu to save a bit?

As for the pre-built, I'm passing on that, I want to build from scratch as a personal project

thanks again my man

you can also find cheaper componets if you are doing low activities, but if you are gaming alot then just ignore this reply. I recomend a budget of $700 usd. if its that low, maybe get a gtx 1650, either a high clock speed i3 or a low clock speed i5 depending if you need 4 or 6 cores, maybe 4 if you will work more but 6 if you will game more. additionally if you want a 144hz monitor from msi maybe instead get a 20-26 inch monitor and maybe you can get 120hz if you want to. if you want to spend less money on a psu, 500w you can also get if you are getting less components. I also reccomend to get a case with more cooling if you want to play cod, but again thats optional and not reasonably required. Also finally, go to pcpartspicker.com and see if you configuration works together. in conclusion, if you want to work, get a i3 gtx 1650. for light gaming, low i5 gtx 1650. you can cheap out on some other parts for work too if you want, but for light gaming maybe stick to i5 and gtx 1650.

I'd go with something like this instead:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i5-10400F 2.9 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($215.98 @ Amazon Canada)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition 57.3 CFM CPU Cooler  ($45.43 @ Amazon Canada)
Motherboard: ASRock B560 Pro4 ATX LGA1200 Motherboard  ($159.99 @ Newegg Canada)

Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS Gold 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply  ($87.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Monitor: MSI Optix G241 23.8" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor  ($219.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Total: $1799.32

This build can play most games today (don't expect it to play future AAA games too well though). GPU is still a rip off, but that's just the market right now. I would try to look for better deals on ebay or even check some newegg bundles.

Also, for a little bit more, got you a very nice premium NVME drive with dram. That should help with the overall snappiness of system and help with download speeds.

If you're okay spending more, I would upgrade the CPU to the 10700f instead. The extra two cores will help out then you want to game and do something else at the same time. If you don't really to plan on playing too much AAA games, you're probably fine with the 10400 though.

Thank you for the build Jonathan!

On a quick glance I noticed you changed the case, did a very slight downgrade to the cpu and upgraded the gpu, is there a particular reason? and if it is not too much to ask for, can you make me spot the differences between what i built and the one you provided? the differences may be obvious but keep in mind im a total beginner ahah

Also feel free to point any mistakes on my end dudes and dudettes, i'm here to learn and have fun with this project

Note: I've made a list of changes too based on what you and doggo sent, thank you fellas!

1660 super is a good entry level gpu. Can play most games out there at the moment at 1080p. For this level of GPU, the 5600x isn't really necessary and in my opinion, its expensive for what it is. Essentially moved around the money so that you can move it to the GPU. The 1660 super is quite a bit faster than the 1650.

Cheaper ram option for the same performance

Changed the SSD to a much nice one with a dram cache. Good for more consistent download times and overall system snappiness

Different case option, but you can use the one you initially had

Nicer PSU with higher wattage for around the same price as previous one

I wrote a really long comment but it got deleted somehow so I will quickly summarize what I was saying in that message

This is a good motherboard, look at the options https://www.newegg.com/asus-tuf-gaming-b450m-pro-s/p/13-119-342

gtx 1660 super is pretty big overkill, Gtx 1650 or even 1080 are pretty good for your described games (going off of john’s list btw)

This shows that 1080 and 1650 are still good with a core that would fit for you and is good enough with your budget. Unless you really want that 144 fps then get a 1660, but I don’t recommend the super model.

cpu on your list is pretty overkill lol, ryzen 5 3600 is a good choice for you, or an i5 generation 6-9.

550w is good for this setup on your list, but 600 works too. 750 is way too high : p

monitor prices can skyrocket when you get above 60hz. 120hz is still also a good option for a lower amount of price, but if you are focused on that 144hz then your monitor is pretty good. I additionally recommend a lower hertz monitor if you get the Gtx 1080 because of the performance drop you can see. Maybe 75 or 120 hertz if you want the Gtx 1080. The only games you can get 144 fps with a Gtx 1080 is probably cs:go lol.

You case is great, but this one has a 40 dollar Black Friday deal (at least in the us) so you could get that too. I also suspect that is better, but I am not 100% confident in that.

also i didnt use pcpartpicker to select these parts, but you can still be golden if you tinker around a littld

remember use pcpartspicker.com
