Hello everybody,

First time poster, long time reader.

I recently upgraded to a 12900K and got the Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4 motherboard to go along with it. I kept my ram from my previous build, G.SKILL TridentZ for the Z370/X299 chipset (I just realized that it was for this chipset).

My issue is that I can only run my ram on the new build at 2133mhz and whenever I enable XMP at 3600mhz or 3200mhz, I get the black screen of death. I've reset the bios and everything is stable but the RAM is still clocked at 2133mhz.

So I'm wondering:

Am I out of luck with this ram set and should buy a new set? (Not ideal since I spent the bag on the new CPU)

How much performance am I leaving on the table with the RAM clocked as is?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

- Jarron

UPDATE: Got the ram working at 3000mhz. My ram set is not listed on the memory support list for this motherboard but it's stable and running.

Been hearing issues about Gigabyte Z690 and DDR4. Seems you aren't the only one.

Hope they fix it soon.

If you have not yet, there was a bios update two days ago, version F6a that is supposed to have fixed the XMP issues. If you try that it may allow you to get it running with your full memory speeds.

  • 11 months later...

Hi everyone.

ive been facing the same issues windows 11 on Intel i9 - 12900k with rog maximus z690 hero i have 128GB ram (4 sticks of 32GB) rated at 5200 ddr5 but im only able to use it at 4000Mhz as it bsod and crashes and does  ram training and never resolvesss when i trun on xmp. but when i use two sticks and xmp it works fine at 5200Mhz.

Havnt figured out a fix for this and not much is available online for these issues

is it the motherboard or the ram or is it the processor itself
