Slowest Xeon Cpu for LGA1366?

herb

what is the slowest xeon cpu for the lga 1366 evga sr2 platform? this might seem like a weird question but let me explain: i have an evga sr2 with dual x5690's and 48gb of ecc ddr3, its sweet. this is the fastest config for this system and even today its pretty fast. so now i was wondering, how slow could this platform get? i want to take my maxed out sr2 and make it as slow as possible. why? because im bored and i want to have some fun. so yeah, what is the slowest set of dual xeons i could put in this thing?

E5502?

Dual core 1.87 gig, no hyper threading, to turbo boost, DDR3 800 only.

Hart to beat it.

cool, thanks. ill see how terrible this makes my sr2!

You'll need something with 2 QPI links, you can check that on the Intel ARK pages.

There's also Jasper Forest stuff which I think is from the embedded architectures, absolutely no idea if the SR2 would have the microcode to run those, let alone even being compatible.

Some stuff might be fairly expensive or hard to find though. Some of the lower power L series skus could even be fairly decent silicon, although you're going to end up highly limited by available multipliers. At least you might have some slightly more useful socket protectors. Sometimes you can even find large lots of them if you really wanted to bin turds.

There also used to be a X58 thread, but it was merged into a general Intel HEDT thread because the X79 and X99 guys were really lonely with their threads. It's been fairly quiet lately, there's a couple SR2 owners hiding in there still I think. I'm sure they'd love to see junk cpus in an SR2 lol.

lmao This was the opposite of me, when I was looking to upgrade my Haswell machine. "What's the fastest LGA 775 Haswell CPU I can get? Oh, it's a Xeon. It's $200 cheaper than a 4790K? Sweet, I'll take it!"

So, do tell, how slow did this, uh, downgrade, make your server? Was it worth the $6?
