So i have a powercolor rx 580 mining edition (i am not a miner) bought it for $70 last year and the temp is not that good so i decided to do the "deshroud" mod but 120mm fan is bigger than the heatsink, 90mm fan is the right size it

we have the same graphics card (I'm going to directly attach the fan at the heatsink)

is 120mm better than 90mm even with the "space"?

As long as you can get a secure mount it should be fine. Majority of fans on cards are usually 90-100mm.

120mm - better fan performance lower rpm (silent) but being bigger than the heatsink means the airflow wont be focused on the heatsink

90mm - smaller but perfect fit

i dont care about the noise just the performance

cant decide 😐

You should be able to deshroud it without damaging the fans so you can always place it back on after if it doesnt work as you hoped.

That's what i thought just buy 2 of each and if one set does not make any difference ill just use them for different things.
Thanks!

Buy a cheap server fan or 2 and stick em on your card, they will be very loud tho and i do mean loud, if you can only find 24v or 48v fans then just strap em to a buck boost converter though some soldering is potentially needed depending on of you buy one with screw terminals for the cables, not to mention cutting up some wires but you can just stick an adapter to your psu and cut that up instead of cutting the psu wire which isnt replacable (unless you wanna solder)

120mm are doable but a pain so i recommend 92mm

i'd say go with 2x 92mm fans

few years ago, I ziptie one kaze 120 on my zotac 1070mini with shroud removed & fan running from mobo pwm header

temps is great, noise was way lower than stock (this is for folding@home, ambient temps = 31c)

xIjI4kN.png

depending on your gpu heatsink/pcb size, the fan might sit too near the mobo
