Top Posters/Staff page sorting changed since update

What happened?

Since the recent forum update the staff directory page is now sorted by member ID# instead of Alphabetically by username. Sorting alphabetically by username makes it a little easier to find certain staff members from the list.

Likewise the "Top Posters in this topic" list is now ordered by member ID# instead of the number of posts each user has in the thread.

 

What did you expect to happen?

Users to be sorted alphabetically (staff page) and by the number of posts in that thread (Top posters)

Part of the reason why small things like this weren't picked up during beta testing is the bugs might not present themselves there, or might not be particularly obvious. There's not many threads on the beta forum which display the Top Posters stats and by coincidence in the few threads which do display it the top poster ID#s also matches the order they would be in by their post count, so it would not be immediately obvious looking at it that it isn't sorted correctly.

Thanks for the report, we'll try to see if we can fix it next week.

Are we sure it wasn't like that before the upgrade? This is actually a 100% base/core feature, so I don't believe the behaviour should've changed.

Yep, it was definitely changed in the latest update.

 

waybackmachine from a few weeks ago shows the staff page sorted alphabetically.

Welp, it's an Invision problem and not something introduced by us. I went and checked https://invisioncommunity.com/staff, and they actually have the same behaviour on their page. Looking at the Wayback machine, there's a 2017 snapshot that shows the staff members in order, so I'm pretty sure we won't try and fix the staff directory and wait for a fix from them (if they even fix it at all).

For the top poster bug, I'll still have to look into it.
