Help! MB DRAM light yellow

Boren
Go to solution Solved by Boren,

Finally got the right solution with the right order!

So I had to reset CMOS, that could only be done with the 2-pin resetter presented in the guide you already linked to this conversation.

The problem was that you have to reset CMOS before you put the 10th gen into the mb and AFTER too. I did not reset after the bios update, but you have to.

thats what I did not know.

1. I changed the 11th intel CPU to 10th gen

2. reset cmos with pins

3. update BIOS

4. change the 10th gen back to 11th gen

5.reset cmos with pins again (when I did not reset before triing with the 11thgen eventhough I already updated the BIOS, it did not work)

6. PC working

Thanks for all the help with that, all of them were helpful!

HI!

My system:

  • CPU: i5-10400F
  • motherboard: ASUS Rog Strix H470-i
  • Graphics Card: GTX 1660 Super
  • RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz F4-3200C16D-16GTZR
  • PSU: Fractal Design ION+ SFX-L 650W Gold

No screen after boot,  DRAM yellow light is on.

Tried different RAMs, tried only one slot or the other or with both but other type of RAM. Although this type is supported according to the manufacturer.

Previously had a 11th gen CPU do others said the problem is that the older MB does not recognise the 11th gen CPU. Now I have the same type of problem with the supported 10th gen, no screen, can not even enter to the BIOS, can't update BIOS.

This type of MB does not have flashblack option, cant update without a screen.

What can be the problem? Please help!

Thanks,

Boren

Did you run the memory at 2933mhz on the 11th gen CPU? If so reset the CMOS, 10400F should only handle 2666mhz on that board

Thanks for the fast replys!

MB has a two pin CLRTC, done it. pluged it in turned on.

First it shut down for a sec after the start then restart and the yellow light still on 😕

To clarify, are you still trying to boot with the 11th gen CPU?

Which BIOS version are you running currently? Have you updated the BIOS?

Did you clear CMOS as per manual instructions?

I was triing with the 10th gen 10400f.

I can not check BIOS version cause there is no display, or I do not know how to without it. The version it came out from the manufacturer.

I held a screwdriver there exactly where this pic shows for 10 seconds. The CLRTC is written next to it on the MB.

Should I try with the 11th version after the CMOS reset?

Just now, FRSHPRNCFBLR said:

The 11th would require BIOS version 2204 or higher to work.

You got your display plugged into the GPU, right?

Yeah but tried with plugging it into the mb too 😄

The F at the end of the CPU name designates that it does not have integrated graphics.

So no display on that one.

Yeah, but i was desperate 😄 and lonely, but thanks for the replies ❤️ . The CMOS reset idea really gave me hope.

For now I do not know what to try, I wont have the 10400 with me for a week 😕

Did you also remove the CMOS battery during the reset?

Nope, I did not find it on this MB, if they put it under some cover i did not check.

Probably hidden under the M.2 heatsink

You can also try remounting your cpu cooler, if the pressure on the cpu is too low or uneven, some pins might not make good contact.
