Gtx 1080 - bargain or not?

norgaards

Hello, I've been offered a gtx 1080 as new for 435 USD. I'm currently on a gtx 970 so it's an upgrade for sure, but could I be splashing on something else instead. For example a rtx 2060 for 410 USD?

Thanks

The price of a 1080 has stayed relatively the same. They usually floated around 400 pre pandemic. Picked one up for 500, while also upgrading from a gtx 970, and it works fantastically. The 1080 is ~10 percent faster than a 2060 in raw performance, but the 2060 will have an edge in ray traced workloads obviously. 2060 does have 6gb of vram versus the 1080's 8. Depends on what you are doing to be hoenst. Are you gaming or rendering? 430 is a great deal depending on the model. Even a lower bin, it'll work just fine. What are the specs of your current system? If you have a weaker cpu / ram, then a 970 isn't bad either for the time being. Sorry for the long list of questions, but there is alot to think about when upgrading the system

Running 16gb of ram, i7 4790k (clocked to 4.5). Im primarily gaming esport titles, but have shifted more towards more demanding games and the likes. Light photoshop and a bit of PowerBI. Thanks for the input.

Id get one for 400. I tend to see 2060's floating around for the same price but not sure how they compare.

4790k is a struggle with a 1080 though, but if fps isnt the goal anymore it should be ok.
