looking at new parts the board im looking at says the m.2s are all Key-M only I haven't done much upgrading in a long time besides graphics cards so i don't want to buy something that doesn't fit. looking at a Samsung - 980 PRO 1TB PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe Gaming Internal Solid State Drive or model number MZ-V8P1T0B/AM from what im able to find it looks like the same pining as Key-M but even Samsung couldn't tell me which one it is. And i am going 11th gen intel for it to work.

The main thing to remember with M.2 is if it's SATA or PCIE/NVME. The Samsung 980 is the latter, so it's just a case of checking if your motherboard supports M.2 PCIE/NVME (it is usually mentioned as PCIE).

So as long as the motherboard mentions that, you're good.

Thank you for the reply i thought it might be something on those lines just wanted to double check because standards are all ways changing. And PCIE/NVME are pretty much tied together?

They haven't made M.2 easy with all the B-key, M-key and B+M-key stuff 😅

Just gotta rely on the M.2 SATA/PCIE thing.

When someone says "M.2 PCIE" or "M.2 NVME" they mean the same thing. NVME is the memory type and PCIE is the protocol of connection used, but when relating to M.2 SSD's it's the same thing.
