Help Installing H100i

Go to solution Solved by Sonefiler,

Never mind, I figured it out! I'm just dumb, didn't realize the pins had a protective covering on them xD

Hey guys, it's me again :P
I'm finally building my computer! Hooray! I'll be taking pics and posting a build log soon :)
My first issue is, I'm trying to install my H100i in Push-Pull. The radiator and fans just barely fit, but the screws seem very small. Is this ok? They just barely poke out of the SP120's.

My second question is, how do the Y-splitters work? I'm super new to building a computer, so bear with me :P I tried plugging each end to a fan plug and a fan header, but none seem to go in ANYWHERE. I don't know if I'm just having morning brain slowness or something weird happened.

Thanks in advance!

Why Push/Pull config? You will get roughly .00001% Performance/Temperature Boost over just Intake (Pull).

Especially if they barely fit, just ditch the idea. Just my honest opinion!

Disclaimer: Linus Sebastian agrees! lol  ;)

As far as the Y-Adapter Cable, it's so that you can plug 2 fans into one Fan Header on the Motherboard.

Therefore, plug your 2 fans into the "Y" part of the cable, and the other side (female) into your motherboard.

Y splitters should work. The bottom of the Y should go into the motherboard, and the others in the fans. Make sure its the right pins.

What case do you have? It may be and issue with the case not the cooler. For the Y-Splitter you have to plug the fans in female end and the other in the motherboard.

My Y-Splitters don't have a female end... I don't think. Here are some pics:

The side that's supposed to be the female end is much wider than the fan plugs on my fans.

Those are male connectors, the other end should have a female connector.

@Sonefiler

Hey,

Plug the Y splitters into the CPU Block. At the top end of the block there should be 2 sets of 4 pin inputs. You plug the splitters into it and then attach the fan 3/4 pin headers into them. You can then control the fans easily in the Corsair link software.

I have mine set in pull configuration only. TBH there isn't much of a difference when using push-pull. The case pressure I would imagine be significantly negative so the case pressure would be negative which will allow a greater build up of dust inside the case.

I'm very happy with my config in pull only. It is really easy to clean and it is the only exhaust fans in my case. So dust build up is quite low  ^_^

This is correct. They are 4 pins. You can connect your 3pin fans into those. See that plastic tab on your Y-Adapter? Correspond that with the 3pin plug on your fan cable.

So, yes, your adapter is 4pin, and 3pin fan cables connect into 4pin female cables. This is also proper logic to apply to your motherboard fan headers. If they are 4 pin, just match up the plastic tab on your 3pin. Will work like white on rice.

This is your confusion.

I don't think you understand. The fan plugs on my fans are female, but the two ends on the Y-splitter are also female.

They don't fit :(Uk0hkhO.jpg

Regarding the push pull.. I've tested push vs pull vs push/pull and they are all pretty much the same.

I have my fans in pull exhausting air out of my case so that the rad is easier to dust and clean.

Push pull does look cooler, but just keep in mind it will be more of a hassle to clean.

It's all for the looks :)

By the way, for anyone curious, PUSH PULL DOES NOT FIT ON THE TOP OF THE 450D. You need to do it in the front, and remove the HDD bays. Good thing I'm not using a HDD :P

I think I had this problem when installing a h100i. We didn't notice that the end of the y splitter has a little cover hiding some long pins.

It seriously took us near an hour to figure it out.

Specs are on my profile page

Teach a man to fish and he ends up sticking a screw driver in a turned on power supply seeing if it still works.        #KilledMyWifeWithABomb            Resolution is just a number

That was exactly my problem. Also took me about an hour to figure out :D

Haha, oh man.. Yeah, you just gave me a flashback when you mentioned the black plastic covers on them. I remember those.. Sorry, I'm usually very thorough but this completely slipped my mind.

Glad you got it squared away though.

**Growls. Grrrr, I hate when the thread starter chooses his own post as the best answer! It's one of my newly-found LTT Pet Peeves for sure! With all the help you got in the post of people at least trying to help, the thread starter should really choose someone that's not themselves! And for the record, this isn't just directed at you alone. This is the 3rd one I saw in 2 days, lol. <End>Rant Over</End>**
