Budget (including currency): $3k USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: All around gaming, Web Browsing, maybe dabble into streaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hey everybody, im a complete newbie when it comes to pcs and building. I have researched and figured out the components i would like to use. I dont want top of line but i dont want something that im gonna have to upgrade every year because a certain component drops off the list. What i will be using the PC for is all around gaming, web browsing, and possibly try to dabble into streaming. As far as what i have spec'd out im looking at around $3100USD before tax or if there is shipping attached before monitors or peripherals. I understand that trying to finding the GPU at MSRP is gonna be extremely difficult as well. Here is the list of components i have decided to build my PC out of:

- ASUS ROG Strix X570-E gaming mobo, AMD Ryzen 5950x, Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3600 memory (2x16gb), EVGA SuperNOVA 1000w P3 80 plus platinum power supply, Samsung 980 Pro 1TB PCIe SSD, and stuffing it all into a Corsair 465X case in black.

Im going back and forth between the Corsair A500 dual fan cpu cooler and a Corsair liquid cooled radiator set up.

I would like to know if this is a good build as my first PC for everything i want to use it for and your thoughts about a CPU cooler set up.

Thank you everybody!

then don't buy 3000$ worth of parts as your first experience. find a cheap/free computer from any era and try taking it apart and reassembling it. get some hands on practice in before spending thousands of dollars.

don't care if you have to practice on a 100% dead computer thats totally different from your planned build , any practice is far smarter than zero.

Only thing that makes sense in this build is the cpu to put it lightly

X570 is not neccesary unless you are running more than 1 gen4 nvme ssd, just go for a decent b550 like the gaming carbon wifi or tomahawk

Corsair ram hates ryzen, also rgb pro is overpriced trash anyways, go for tridentz neo if you like tuning your ram or go for the cheapest 3600 cl16/18 rgb kit you can find if you arent interested in any ram tuning

Not sure on the price of that psu, didnt specify, go for a 1000w revolt x or 1200w hxi if you are looking to futureproof

980 pro is wayyy overkill, go for a cheaper ssd like z440, rocket 4.0, or mp600 core

Corsair cases are mostly overpriced garbage, the 220t airflow and 4000d airflow and maybe even the 275r are the only ones worth getting, other cases just suck ass airflow wise and/or are extremely overpriced, case you chose here is both, go for a p400a or p500a instead cause its cheaper

A500 sucks balls, corsair aios are also overpriced, if you wanna dabble around in overclocking or want silence then go for a liquid freezer 360, if you dont care about oc then go for a dual tower like fuma 2 or d15s, they should still be sufficiently quiet and also basically last forever as long as you swap the fans every decade or 2 when they die

Welcome to the forums!

Honestly, you don't need to go balls to the walls on your first build. But that's your choice.

Here's my suggestion:
If you're only gaming and possibly streaming, you could save some money on the CPU and on the motherboard. Since it's your first build and you're getting started, I don't see any need for an X570, plenty of features you probably wouldn't need and would be paying for.
Case is personal taste so I'll leave it as is. (also added the "cheapest" 3080 Ti just for price reference on the rest of the build)

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mvxmnL

I left the SSD and PSU (not the P3, but the P2 one) you chose because I haven't kept up with that side of things.

If you still think you should go for the top of the line stuff, by all means, go ahead, but you'll be spending money for the sake of spending money.

When I built my first one I also had close to no experience, but I watched plenty of videos on how to build a computer (glorious 2014 videos) and honestly, it's not rocket science and if you watch a video and pay close attention, you should be ok.
I was on a much stricter budget tho, so I wasn't playing around with top of the line components that would set me back a lot of money if I were to fuck it up but I also wasn't in a position that I could replace anything if that were to happen.

Also, use PCPartPicker.com, helps a ton.

I think this could be your better option. If you are planning on gaming and streaming then the Ryzen 9 is a little overkill so I bumped it down to a Ryzen 7, plenty to game and stream on without spending too much and having too much power. All the other parts I chose will do you just fine and last a long time and I was able to fit everything into your budget. Just be careful because the Ryzen socket AM4 is coming to an end later this year. If you live anywhere near Philadelphia, PA then I would be happy to help as I have been doing this for 25 years and have the experience and degrees to back it up.

All the other people on here gave good advice. Although x570 boards are not that different from B550, sure they might have more features but everything still works the same. The x570 board I picked is simple as are all the MSI Tomahawk boards are from the x470,b450, x570,& B550 lines. What I picked for you I just wanted everything to go together nicely with as little complications as possible. And what someone else has said about finding a used PC to practice on is a good idea, try the Free section on Craigslist and see what they have. Here is a Video from Linus from Linus Tech Tips on how to build a PC from a first person view... I just want you to have all the tools necessary to have a good experience. Here is the tool kit I use,it has everything you need without the high price tag for a name brand kit.

They do, i get trying to find a free computer to take apart to see different things. I would hate to waste money building a cheap $1500 rig then turning around and building a $3k rig. I guess what i was trying to accomplish was future proofing the system from any kindve of discontinuation of things for a little while. maybe why i was looking at the CPU and Mobo combo. Thanks for the links

Anytime...Please don't hesitate to ask me anything. Just a few more things,

1. I'm not familiar with all the different water coolers/AIO's on the market. You might want to get a small tube of thermal paste just to be safe and it's always a good idea just to keep some on hand if you ever need it. I would go with Arctic Silver, Arctic MX,or Thermal Grizzly, Areonought for Air Coolers and Hydronaught for Water Coolers.

2. Magnetic Screw Drivers are your best friend when building PC's.

3. Here is a link to my website... and you can find me on FB under Chris Sykes
