which ram should i buy

Go to solution Solved by Leonard,

hi,

I have an intel i7 4770k and asus maximus vi hero

I am using an old DDR3 1333mhz ram (2 x 2gb)

Now I want to buy high speed ram like 2133 or 2400

but asus gave me vey few options in the vendor compatibility list

and 90% are not available in my area(India) and the one which are available are very costly

i know I can not use every DDR3 ram in my mothermoard (ram timing)

i want best ram for my motherboard.

Can i use any ram of a particular timing?

if anyone has the same motherboard, which ram you are using?

which is the best 2133 and 2400 ram for my motherboard?

i want 8 gb and these are available

for 2133

I would advise you choose your GSkill RAM from this list.....http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator?manu=29&chip=1307&model=1407 and then check if your list has it, this way you will know for sure that the kit is compatible with your motherboard so having to deal with an RMA would be unlikely.

1600 mhz is the  best...u should go for gskill Ripjaws X...if u are using that cpu...1600mhz will be just fine with cl 9...u can get it on flipkart as u live in India... :)

Unless you have an APU, that RAM speed is useless. The sweet spot for everything is about 1866MHz.

@PassionFruit thank you very much for your reply but as I play battlefield and high speed ram helps in giving few more frames. i know i won't get much performance compared to the money it will cost but i just want high speed ram.

I know you guys are telling the right thing but I am willing to spend little more money for 2133 or 2400. So please if you could tell me which one from the above list of ram should I buy?

U are wrong about that...it doesnlt work like that..increasing speed also increase latency...and first of all u are using a cpu not an apu so what u said is already untrue mate... :) ...1600 mhz will give u best performance in gaming...

and also let me tell u it will make no difference...the performance will be same as that u will get from 1600mhz cl9...

@Cubit481 i know high speed ram causes latency but @Linus himself said in the wan show that in battlefield 4 high speed ram helps in giving few more frames.

@Cubit481 this is an anadtech post http://www.anandtech.com/show/7364/memory-scaling-on-haswell

it says there is 20% performance difference between 1333mhz and 2400mhz

with all respect. I am not proving you wrong, just take these questions as my curiosity.

i understand mate... :) ... the point is they sure give better performance if u use integrated gpu and also helps in OCing more but the performance is not stable for every game or app...they will surely increase the physics and overall compute performance but for gaming they will not be doing that much as we expect from them...i saw WAN show and the battlefield performance is weird to mee too... :P ...but if u really have extra bucks and want to spent then go for 2133...may be it will make difference for the games coming in future...

Go for the highest clock speeds with the lowest cas latency at the cheapest price. I personally use Ripjaws in my own rig but ram is ram. If all else fails just go with the cheapest 1600/1866 @ CL9 you can find.

CPU: 4670k 4.2GHz @ 1.25v | MotherBoard: Asus Z87i-Deluxe m-ITX | Ram: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 2400Mhz | GPU: Sapphire HD7970 GHz Vapor-x @1190Mhz/1625Mhz | Case: Bitfenix Prodigy (White) | Storage: Samsung 850 Evo 240GB, Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB, Seagate Barracuda 2TB | PSU: Seasonic 650W G Series 80+ Gold | Monitor: Asus VS239H-P 23" | Heatsink: Corsair H100i with SP120 PWM Performance | Keyboard: Corsair K70 (Cherry MX Red), Corsair K70 RGB (Cherry MX Brown) | Mouse: Corsair M95
