DIY project

licass90

Hey guys I don’t know if I’m in the right place to write this but I need help. I’m doing a diy project and I wanted to know if this usb charger works without the component that I don’t know what it is, it smells like burned but it’s not burned.

I want to solder off but I don’t know if it makes a huge difference

Well, not knowing what it is really makes it hard to answer

Electronics that smell burnt are (most likely) not working anymore.

The blue component is an Y class capacitor, it's there to reduce high frequency noise that otherwise could affect radios and other devices in your house.

It can be removed without any bad effect from an electrical point of view you'll get the output on your usb connectors and all that.

That component is unlikely to smell burnt, it's probably the transformer (the big component) that overheats when you charge something at high current.
