DELL display on MacOS, M1 MacBook?

Anyone managed to get any third party monitors to properly work on the M1 SoC devices? I was messing about for a while to get the image to display correctly, but the quality of text and everything is just unusably bad. Eventually I gave up. Haven't tried since then, but wondering if anyone got any information if Apple fixed it?

I tried a 4k LG tv and DELL S2721DGF.

I haven't had a problem with external monitors and M1. I had an M1 Macbook Air for a hot second, and it was fine on both the Dell (same as you) at the office, and my LG at home.

It works, but it doesn't choose RGB mode and I can clearly tell the text is not clear. I've done some research on this in the past and found many people with such issues, though no fix found.
