Game lags with good gpu and cpu

I have been playing black ops 3 zombies recently for the nostalgia but the game has been struggling to run even on low settings with nothing open but the game and discord, i have a 1070 ti and i5 8600 and i have tried changing every setting and i have even put it on the lowest settings and still cant figure out why its lagging when i know the game can be run on high or extra settings with my set up. i also been having the same problem in other games that are resource demanding even though i theoretically should have the specs needed to play the games at those settings is there any way to find out what else is causing the lag or making them impossble to even get 60 frames on?

Close discord. As in close close it so it's not still open in the system tray (hidden under the arrow on the right side of the task bar).

 

Then monitor your cpu and gpu usage with something like msi afterburner.

 

Probably something is causing high usage and slowing down the game.

 

Also monitor temps.

i have noticed temps are higher than normal, but i dont know whats causing it, i clean the dust out of my pc every one or two months so theres no buildups

Well do as I say and monitor all of it whilst in the game. The cpu look at each core individually.

I just tested it and it ran fine with discord closed, there was almost no gpu usage at all it was utilizing around 60 percent of my cpu though

Odd gpu usage. You sure you were looking at your card? Should still be a noticeable bump.

 

Pretty much what is going on here is a story I've told many times. But this time with a twist.

 

The 8600k is a pure 6 core 6 thread cpu. BO3 is a game that can effectively use 4 threads but will put load on up to 6.

 

Discord is a unoptimized webapp running on your desktop through a chromium front and when it acts up it loads up the cpu a fair bit.

 

So with some bad thread scheduling those 2 lower use cores left for the system aren't used properly or are being maxed out and then it will start using the 4 cores BO3 is using causing issues. So you end up running into issue there.

yeah I was watching my gpu usage the whole time, in both task manager and afterburner and nzxt cam, they all said 1 percent gpu usage on the game and that my gpu was under 9 percent total load while playing. so how should i play the game while still being able to talk to my friends since discord is the issue is there any way to make discord not do that lol
