First desktop PC (build)

Go to solution Solved by Bad@Gaming,

I don't understand the language.

But the price equivalent is roughly $2300 USD. So I would get something like this with that price:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3pwEJ

Things to consider:

-Save some money and get a smaller PSU, but you won't be able to add a second 780 ti in the future if you do this.

-Get a 780 instead of a 780 ti. You won't dip below playable frame rates (You'll still be golden), but you might suffer a bit with 3d gaming which is what you want to do. It also won't be quite as good in the future.

I left out $400ish for peripherals. Although with all the peripherals you chose I probably went overbudget.

Hi, I am soon planing on getting my first gaming PC, I have a budget on around  2500$ (15000kr) and would like some help in picking components. I do have the ability to go a little over budget (about 340$ (2000kr) more at most) but would preferably not. I would like to go for a Nvidia GPU (preferably the 780 or 780ti, maybe even wait until the desktop Maxwell GPU's get relesed). Another important note is that I live in Norway so everything has to get deliverd here somehow (and that can cost A LOT). With this budget I could get this setup in Norway:

Link: https://www.komplett.no/komplett-gamer-premium-gtx-780-edition/10782 (Norwegian)

nVIDIA's Daylight (Voucher)
PC-box large
Cooler Master CM 690 III black
Corsair CX 750M, 750W PSU
ASUS P9X79 LE, Socket-2011, KUN PC-PROD
Intel Core i7-3820 Processor
Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 16GB KIT
Intel Air Cooling
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 780 3GB PhysX CUDA
Crucial M500 SSD 2.5" 120GB
WD Desktop Blue 1TB
Samsung DVD Writer, SH-224DB
CM Storm Devastator - MS2K & MB24
Logitech OEM S-120 2.0 Speaker
MS ROYALTY Windows 8.1 Nordic
MS COA Win 8.1 Nordic
3 years of warenty

This is if I buy it from the scandinavian chain Komplett.no, and this would mean that they would assemble it for me.

Is this a good value for 2500$?

Other notes are:

-I have never actually built a PC (but in theory know how to go about it)

-The budget includes all costs (components, shipping, etc)

-Again I live in Norway so that means that the power adapter has to be European

-I have a monitor (60hrz, 24"), but need a keyboard and preferably a good/decent mouse

-One american dollar is about 6kr (NOK)

-The PC from Komplett.no is somewhat configurable

- I am not getting/buying parts/a built PC before May

-I would like a side panel in the casing

All help is much appreciated!

Unless you do a ton of editing or something like that (like you just game, or game with some streaming/editing on the side), get a nice Z87 motherboard and a 4670K. Then try to get a 780Ti in there.

No, that's a bad value. There's no point going 2011 for just gaming.

I'd suggest planning later. ~2-3 days at most before you buy. Parts and prices change frequently so any parts list you come up with now will likely be obsolete by the time you're ready to buy.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

This. i7-E series CPU's are mostly for workstation computers. You won't notice a huge performance boost over an i5 or i7 (at least, definitely not enough to justify the extra $300+ cost. 5ish fps better at most).

Dropping down to a 4670k will save quite a bit of money that can then be invested into (like he said) a 780 ti or r9 290x. IN terms of 4670k vs 4770k, the hyperthreading won't give a gaming performance boost so there's no need for it unless you're going to be doing video editing or 3d rendering or [insert CPU intensive task here].

Also, you shouldn't need more than 8GB's of RAM for modern games, so you can save some cash there as well. For video editing like I described above you might benefit from it more, however.

Do yourself a HUGE favor: Ditch the intel cooler and get something worth a darn (hyper 212 evo I'm looking at you).

Intel core i5-3570k @ 3.4 GHz - Sapphire Radeon HD7870 Ghz OC Ed 1050/1250 - Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB SSD - G.Skill 8 GB's DDR3-1600 MHz

Asus Z77-A mobo - Windows 7 64 bit - Corsair raptor HS30 headset - Corsair CX600 600w PSU - CM hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler

It can run crysis.

I would recommend that he stays with 16GB of RAM. I idle at about 4GB of RAM usage... that WOULD be half of my RAM had I got a 8gb kit. I personally feel like 16gb of RAM is becoming more standard

I would check your computer for viruses. 4GB's idle is a bit extreme. I'm browsing the web right now using less than half of that, Your user award says "folding@home", are you doing this in the background?

Folding doesn't use RAM. And I don't have a virus, I just use more than 1 application at a time :P

This is all that I'm running in the foreground

That would be why you are using 4GB's. True idle is nothing open.

The Cooler was something I was going to modify, thanks for the thanks for the suggestion

How were you going to modify it?

Most people have this many applications running though, and I don't even run many RAM intensive programs other than my LTC Wallet.

Well I guess if you're going to run this much in the background, then you might benefit from 16 GB's, but if not then 8GB's will suffice. I also suppose that if the OP wanted to future proof (I know, I know), then 16 GB's wouldn't be a bad idea since upgrading from 8 to 16 in the future might be slightly tricky if you can't find your exact RAM model (and the old ones would die faster, ect).

by "modify" I meant use a different cooler, it sounded logical to say "modify/configure the setup" in my head

Oh lol. I thought you meant modifying the heatsink itself in some way.

For CPU coolers, I would recommend the following:

Low end (not terrible by any means):

Cooler master hyper 212 EVO ($30 USD) + Arctic cooler MX-4 thermal paste ($7)

I'd recommend it for replacing the stock intel cooler and for mild to mid and sometimes high overclocks if you have a good chip.

High end:

Air:

Noctua NH D-14 (or wait for the NH-D15). About $100 USD

Water:

Corsair H100/H100i/H105/H110 (check for case compatibility). All around the $100 USD range.

Anyways from what I can decode from what you posted, there are a few things I would ditch:

Norton (get AVG, MSE, and malware bytes for scans. All free)

DVI cable (the monitor should come with one, but double check that)

sound card (unless you are an audiophile, onboard audio is usually just fine)

Other things I've already mentioned (CPU/mobo)

Also, I wouldn't recommend that intel cooler for a 3820 anyways because it's probably not substantial enough and the CPU would overheat causing crashes, throttling, and reduced lifespan.

It has to do with the fact that I would like to have it built for me, and the company I am probably going to order from, is not very  nice towards the configuration part when it comes to the budget. I don't think there's anything you could really do at this point either (well you technically could try out configurating every single PC they have for sale towards the budget, though that would be ridiculous). Thanks for the help anyway, I appreciate it
