Installing M.2 SSD and Included Heatsink

On atx mobo i tried, the included M.2 heatsink is longer than the 2280 nvme ssd, so i used a M.2 screw for the nvme ssd, and then also installed the heatsink screw into the heatsink standoff, is this correct?

On m-atx, the included m.2 heatsink is same length as 2280 nvme, so I did not use a m.2 screw and just used the heatsink screw to fix the nvme ssd onto the heatsink standoff.

However, with the atx mobo, the heatsink is very loosely attached to the ssd, whereas on the m-atx, the heatsink is almost glued to the ssd, which i would assume is better for thermals.

Am i doing everything right?

What's the exact model of the motherboard? Normally you should always use a M.2 standoff screw for every M.2 drive.
