New Sound Card?

Go to solution Solved by Jaybird,

I think you are fine. most people here will say to stay with onboard audio if you arent running anything top grade.

Hello all, I currently have a creative fatal1ty sound card that I purchased roughly 4-5 years ago. I believe it is this card or very similar to this one(not at home cannot look at exact model)

I currently have these speakers set for day to day movies, relaxed gaming, ect..  not super great speakers but not bad either..

And i have this headset for more serious gaming/mic use.. also use it for all of my gaming consoles (ps4,ps3,360)

I guess what I am asking is, should i look into a new sound card or speakers. I just got the headset a few months ago so i don't want to replace it.

Also if i should get a new sound card, what are good recommendations. I head asus xonar it pretty good but im not audio expert.

The other question i have is, is a sound card that much better than on board ( i know it depends on the mobo also so ill list system specs here)

Please let me know what you guys think

sound card are technically designed for computers that do not have onboard audio. they generally are not constructed for audio-philes simply becuase the card is limited on size.

Is the headset bad? seems to be pretty good to me, i know there are tons of better ones if i was super into sound headset wise.

I mainly got it because i can use it for anything from mobile to pc and consoles, and i like to be able to change presets and stuff. also the headset does simulated surround so i have it connected with optical or Dolby digital 5.1 with all my equipment.

mainly the sound card would be for if i wanted more of a  home theater experience when not using the headset.. such as 7.1 surround for movies and maybe immerse games and music if ya know what i mean.

sorry if my explanations are not the clearest.
