Network sharing no longer sharing Internet connection.

Ton-618

Recently I am no longer able to share internet connection using by laptop or mobile. I use my laptop to share my internet connection to my PS4, as a shared wired connection is still more stable than a wireless connection, but recently I am no longer able to. My PS4 will obtain IP address and connect but there will be no internet. Same scenario when I share my WiFi using mobile hotspot. My laptop and PS4 will connect to the hotspot connection but there will be no internet.

I have tried bridging the connection between PS4 and my laptop. Firstly the bridging takes multiple attempts and every 20-25 mins it disconnects for like 30 seconds. There is no internet connection in those 30 seconds on both my PS4 and laptop.

I tried a different laptop, which even supports WiFi6, but same results. There is connection but the internet is not shared.
It was working perfectly fine 2 days ago and no one has messed with the router/internet settings since. I have a TP-Link router (TL-WR940N) with a cable internet.

Is it DNS?? I bet it's DNS.

Set DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

Could ping both to see which is better lol

DNS just ends up a meme among networking, 9/10 times the issue is a DNS config got reset somewhere 😂

I did change the DNS in my router settings to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 but it had no effect. It's the same issue, connected to but no internet being shared.

@Ton-618

Is the laptop able to get and sustain a wireless connection by itself in the vicinity of the PS4? At what signal strength? At what speeds?

Doesn't matter. Your limiting factor here is an old WiFi 4 router. Despite being able to reach a theoretical maximum of 450Mbps, the TL-WR940N can only achieve this with channel bonding and perfect conditions on 2.4GHz. 2.4GHz is already a heavily congested band for many. Might be worth running a wireless survey and posting the channel analysis for the 2.4GHz frequency in your area.
