I am looking for a solid 2 or 2.1 speaker system that is appartment friendly.  I am not looking for explosive volume or bass.  Mostly quality at a moderate volume is the goal here.  I would like it to be nice for games, but it is mostly for movies and music while I work around my place away from the desk.  A remote would be nice so that while away from the desk I could adjust things, but it isn't a deal breaker either.

I have hunted around and have seen a TON of mixed reviews out there.  Some people claim some things are a work of art and others claim they are pieces of junk.  Audio junkies are hard to figure out when it comes to reviews.

The price range would be about 150$ - 350$ and is slightly flexiable as long as its for good reason.

I just use some harmon kardon soundsticks, reasonably priced and very nice quality

also recommend the z623 if you dont like the look of them

corsair sp2500s are also very good

you could also go for bookshelf speakers and an amp or something but it takes up lost of space

I vote bookshelf speakers and an amp. Can be second hand/old and if you choose the right stuff it'll be better than plastic/flimsy wood type things that Logitech and stuff make.

Audioengine A2+ and Creative Labs GigaWorks T40 Series II are the only made-for-PC speakers I can recommend (and possible Audioengine A5+ just because you have the budget). Otherwise, buy this Dayton-Lepai combo for under $100.
