why would you want to swap the CPU from quad core sandy bridge to quad core sandy bridge with the same frequency?

I doubt the PSU has enough power for an additional GPU, but maybe a gtx 1050 or 1650 could work

Also in switching to the e3 1270, you would lose onboard graphics, which means you would need a GPU

You could however, if there is a compatible BIOS version, switch to an Ivy bridge CPU. That might give you some more performance, but wihtout a GPU, this wont help much for gaming either (assuming this is your use case)

i'm planning on getting an empty prebuilt, so it doesn't come with ram, storage, or a cpu
i also forgot to mention that it's the m92p small

that'd be a problem, i believe the psu is TFX and is proprietary

look, the e3 1270 costs half as much as the i7 and is the same price as a i5(2-3rd gen)
I'm trying to build as much of a cost effective system as possible

As for the gpu, it'll fit anything that's sff (think gt 1030 silent, 1650 LP)

a 1030 has no gaming value

maybe save some more money and get something better later.

i was thinking of ivy bridge i5 because it might consume less power. then you would have more left for the GPU
