Updating BIOS with cpu installed?

Josh -_-

I’ve just put all my parts on my MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk motherboard (cpu, cpu cooler, ram, ssd) however I realised I forgot to update the BIOS beforehand. Is it safe for me to update the BIOS with everything installed, or do I have to take everything out to update it. Thanks

You can update the BIOS with everything installed.

In fact most boards require a CPU to be able to update the BIOS, except for boards that support BIOS flashback (yours does) which can also update without a CPU. But you can definitely update it with all components already installed.

As Eigenvektor said above, but are you actually thinking that the current CPU isn't compatibile without the BIOS update?

Because typically you need an older compatible CPU to perform the update before a newer one will work, if that's your worry.

It has a bios flash feature. So it is compatible once I update it.

The B550 Tomahawk supports BIOS flashback, so no CPU is needed. However the board does support Ryzen 5xxx CPUs out of the box, so no update should be required at all. You might still need an update if e.g. it doesn't support the RAM sticks you want to use (was the case with mine).
