GPU or CPU upgrade for 1080p general gaming?

My best buddy currently has a collection of my old parts (980 Ti and a Ryzen 2600X). He runs a 240Hz 1080p monitor and plays many different types of games. I personally just upgraded from a 2060 to a 3060Ti and am wondering, which would be a better upgrade for him: giving him my 2060 or getting him a Ryzen 5600X? Either way I'll be selling the old parts on ebay, so really I'm just curious about which option would net him more frames, thanks!

For low resolution, high refresh rate, the CPU tends to be the limiting factor. That holds true here. Not to mention that the 980 Ti and 2060 have similar performance already, so that wouldn't really be an upgrade.

2060 for sure. a 2600X is still fine for today's stuff.
