What voltage modes do you use for a cpu oc?

So ive heard that if running a locked voltage at idle can waste a bit of power so i was wondering what you use

i have a msi click 5 bios and adaptive mode just dosent work for me im trying to do 1.270v when on load with a 5ghz all core oc on my 10700k but i dont know any other option apart from override which is a locked voltage

I'm using -Offset undervolt for my overclock. To be exact:

I set the All Core multiplier to 47 from 43, with stock auto voltages.

Then I put in -0.095mV on the voltage curve using -Offset. (undervolt)

So now I'm basically running stock auto voltages but with a lower voltage curve.
At idle, my Vcore goes as low as 0.700V-ish and peaks at 1.380V-ish.

Can't go lower than 0.095mV - it'll BSOD my PC from time to time at idle.

Yes, sorry, I read through the newer comments right after I posted mine. I see how my comment was unusable.

My clockspeed does not stay at Max Turbo speeds at idle.

Everything in my BIOS is "stock" / default, part from what I said in my first comment + XMP and ReSizable Bar is enabled aswell. In Windows, I use the normal Balanced power profile.

Are you 100% sure what something isn't using your CPU? Have you check the task manager and so on?

Something tells me what something is using your CPU.

My 8700K idles at 3/4% with background programs, on Windows 11 - which generally uses 1% more of my CPU than Windows 10.
And my 8700K has 2 cores and 4 threads less than your 10700K.

If you click on "CPU" in the Processes-tab, what uses your CPU right now?

oh i meant like try offset mode, so what i did was offset -0.045 at 5ghz all core and managed to pass 10 min r23 at 1.258 and is perfectly stable

Oh right, gotcha. Glad it works for you 👍

Please remember though that AVX workloads will cause the CPU to lower clockspeeds and voltage, so you will probably hit higher voltages than 1.258 in CPU heavy games, that do not use AVX instructions.
