Windows 8 tablets Novelty?

i want to know what you guys think, the only thing i could see them being good for is getting the free copy of ms office. other than that they are kinda bad to type on, have low battery life and low storage

for people who need them, they work well. i'd love to have one for classes. but i've also got better things to spend 700$ on.

see thats were it is if they cost like 250 then they might be good but as a tablet you kinda want a keyboard and then you have a laptop and you can get better 500$ laptop

I think tablets full stop are novelties at the moment, but people still use them.

When the new sheen comes off, people will go back to what they are used to and reserve their tablet for tweeting on the toilet.

There is a great tablet called the ASUS T100 it has 11 hrs battery 64 gb ssd and 500gb hdd. free office, and is not bad to type on.

i was looking at that for a laptop replacement and there was no mention about a 500gb hdd but it only has 2 gb of ram and a 1.8 ghz processor were as a 500$ laptop would have almost double the specs

actually i found it on ncix, it seems to be decent, being able to play some low resource games on it so i might pick up that instead of a laptop, i mainly want minecraft and word on it but being able to put a but ton of movies on would be nice

You also have to account for the fact a 500$ laptop is a lot bulkier, they tend to have worse battery life.

Why spend 2500 on a Razer blade when you could beat it with a 800euro pc or a 1400euro fat laptop ? Some people do for convenience.

Would I have bought my t100 if I didn't have a desktop hell no. But I do so I need to type, browse, use office, present and survive the day on battery

i guess so or you could spend 1000 on a desktop and get a bad ass pc desktop

Performance is the big draw for me in x86 based tablets. The ability to run any windows software is certainly another, it could be used like a laptop in a push making it a lot more vesatile than an android/iOS tablet. If I turned up to work with my nexus 7 I would be completely unable to do anything useful, with a Windows tablet however I could set up an entire development environment and get working. It might not be fast enough, the screen might be a bit small but it would be able to do it, right there that is the appeal.

I plan on getting a Asus Transformer book T100 sometime, the keyboard dock you get is a good keyboard and the touch screen is good too.

 

Windows 8.1 runs good on tablets and with a good 11 hour battery life its better then most android tablets today.
