WP8.1 dev preview update inquiry

When I update to the WP8.1 dev preview update. Will I lose my basic smart phone functions(internet, calls, text, apps)???? And how would I go back to WP8 from WP8.1? If it is flashing roms or anything like that, I have a friend who can do that. Lastly, what are all the ways of reverting? Assuming its possible??

Dev preview it's not here yet. I'm sure it will come via OTA like all other WP updates. While installing, you'll not be able to call or receive calls like every other firmware update. You won't lose any app, call log or texts. Even if you do, you can restore the from the cloud. Reverting to amber normally wouldn't be possible, but there is tool called nokia care suite for PC...for Lumias of course.

developer preview gives you the full Windows 8.1 experience without waiting for your mobile carrier to approve it. Yout phone will function normally of course. But after the update, not while updating.

ok I think I got it. But just to make sure. During update, WILL NOT WORK. After update, WILL WORK completely? Or with basic functions only? Sorry if I'm getting annoying at all....
