Depends on your budget, PC and use case. If all you do is store files then HDD, if Games SATA SSD and if some high end games or programs I'd say Nvme but you won't really notice it.

I recently added another 2TB Seagate (HDD) to my system and have to say that I regret it.

I access files on it quite often and I definitely notice the cumbersome 140 read/write speed it has.

There are other drives I have including a WD Blue SSD which has a read write of around 560 iirc.

That runs much faster day to day and feels like a far more suitable component to have in a "higher" end pc in 2021.

Didn't think HDDs were that bad but if you're constantly writing to it you can run into some problems.

I'd shell out the extra money to bring an SSD up to the size you'd get it for as a HDD if you plan on using what you store on it.

Just realised that none of the above answers your question.

It will depend on what you already have. The most probably answer would be to get a sata ssd like the wd blue ssd I have which is good enough for gaming and accessing files often.

My Steam library sits on a HD, a 18 TB WD Gold drive actually. I've never had an issue or compliant. Not saying SSD aren't faster or better, as they are, but HDs are still fine for large quantities of data.

So I think it more comes down to how much data the OP needs. If they have already filled up a 2 TB SSD, and may do so again quickly it may not be cost effective to buy SSD for storage. If they only had 512 or 1 TB it begin with them it may make sense to pick up a second SSD.

Agreed.

I would still recommend a hard drive or two for mass storage but you gotta know what you're going to be storing.

For me, It's frustrating going from using a 970 evo to a seagate HDD. It just makes that gap bigger and seriously puts me off at times.

I was sure that I would use most of the 2TB when I bought it so it seemed like a good choice price wise but I've ran into a predicament where I might have been better off getting an SSD for the sake of saving time.

Essentially I am the second part of the equation of what you recommended here.
