So i just got my hands on an MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 2x OC and a Ryzen 5 4600. I have a 400w platinum rated PSU with only one 8-pin PCI-E cable. Will the PSU be enough for the CPU and GPU, and all i have to do is buy a splitter, or must i sell my PSU and get a new one? I have Micro ATX case so i need a small PSU.

You should theoretically be fine, depending on what else your system have. But you are very close to the limit at stock speeds. Any OC or power spikes and you will go over.

I would recommend to go up to about 650W, giving you a little headroom.

Its also always recommended to run separate power cables to each plug on the GPU

If you want me to answer, please use the quote function or tag me. I dont get notified unless you do

Running a 650 or 750W is mores probably the sweet spot

Go higher if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it really unless your cpu or anything need it

Maybe running 2 gpus or if you just wanna overspend like hell on a psu (a higher wattage is better)

A 3070 easily pulls 260W

And depends on if your cpu is overclocked, I think 400W is maybe a bit too little

A 550w is probably ok, but I would go with a 650/700w for future upgrades

You mean a Ryzen 5 4600G? Bad cpu for a PCI-e4.0 x16 GPU because it only has 8 PCI-e3.0 lanes available for the PCI-e x16 slot.

What make and model motherboard is it?

I only found 400w platinum PSUs in prebuild systems. Do you have a prebuild like HP, Acer, Lenovo or something like that?

I do have an HP Pavilion TG01-2827no. Its a mATX case. Its a Erica3 motherboard which only supports Ryzen 4000 series Renoir CPUs. Just realized that buying a new PSU won’t work because the motherboard doesn’t have the standard 24-pin power connector. It uses 2 weird 4-pin connectors (one of them is for the CPU). No PSU i know of has one of these. Any tips on what to do?

It's not mATX. It's proprietary with 12VO PSU and front I/O fixed at the motherboard. New PSU also means a new motherboard and new case. My advise: sell it and build something new with Ryzen 5600X/5800X or Intel i5-11600/i7-11700.

But what if i were to get my hands on the same PSU, but with 500W? (I have a  friend who could swap with me)

Then you still have a crappy cpu with only 8 PCI-e3.0 lanes and a case with very bad airflow.

Does the 500w have two 6+2 pin PCI-e connectors that's required for the MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 2x OC and does the GPU fit in the case?

Sorry for taking so long to answer, i actually answered a while ago and closed chrome and it got deleted…

Is the cpu THAT bad? Idk what the 8pci-e 3.0 lanes means, will it tank my performance a lot? What does it mean?

The PSU does not have two 8-pin connectors, instead it has one 6-pin and  one 8-pin. I can get myself an adapter. The GPU does fit in the case and the airflow actually alright, or it was at least fine with a 2060s

The GPU is wired with 16 PCI-e4.0 lanes. PCI-e 3.0 is half the bandwith of PCI-e4.0. With 8 PCI-e3.0 lanes you give the GPU a quarter of the bandwith it's made for.

Using an adapter is not recommanded. Mosly they're of bad quality and loose voltage.

Well in terms of its raw performance, not really, it was close to a ryzen 5 3600 in some scenario

4600g does have x16 lanes for gpu, and yes i know it's still 3.0

Im not going with a “balls-to-the wall” epic gaming rig(as you can probably tell), as long as it runs better than a 2060s im happy. I found a good quality adapter, 200 NOK (about 20USD) . Will this work out? Having less bandwidth means what for my performance? My budget is only about 100bucks rn, which is why i would REALY like to not have to buy all new parts and just get a new PSU.

I'm not that familiar with some sort of adapter like that, so yeah, I can't really say anything about it

Little to no fps drop
