A blockchain-backed NFT game called Axie Infinity is very popular at the moment at Southeast Asia. This game has been branded as a 'play-to-earn' game and many are crazed about it. I don't know how these kind of games work, it is very new to me. I am just wondering how can someone legitimately earn from these games, and how futureproof these games are. Thank you!

It's a scam welcome to what is basically a pyramid scheme. Stay as far away from it as possible.

Can you elaborate for me how is it a scam? Although I have no plan to play it, I just need to understand how it works for a report. Thank you in advance

NFT = Non-Refundable Token. Point of which is to be unique, digital item you buy. The value of it is in the fact that it's unique and more people wanting it increases the price.

So can you explain how this would work with any game where purpose usually is to offer similar experience for multiple people?

Is this mean that you can't really "play-to-earn" on this kind of game because you are just collecting of some sort of currency that really has no value? Sounds like a pretty big scam

That's pretty much what NFTs are in general. Their value is only that what someone else is willing to pay for them. Same applies to art and other physical pieces, but with those you actually have the physical item. If you invest nothing to gain something of imagenary value to begin with, imo you still have nothing. So if there is payment, this is just pyramid scheme. If it's just app, software or browser addon, then it's malware using your hardware to mine crypto.
