New SSD Problems: Please Help!

Go to solution Solved by teetzen_534,

Everything was all taken care of! Put the drive in slot 2 and spammed F11 to run windows boot manager (first option for me). Once I did that I was able to format the drive in disk management easily. Thank you so much to everyone who was helping me out, especially @LpoolTech who chatted with me through Discord to guide me to the solution. Thanks again!

I just built my first ever pc!

Put in all the components and works perfectly. I installed windows on my 1TB m.2 ssd and have used that for about the last week now. Just yesterday I got another m.2 ssd to use as dedicated storage for schoolwork. I plug it in and now it keeps booting into BIOS! I tried reseating the ssd, changing BIOS settings to AHCI mode, and even swapping the drive slots between the two of them. Nothing, it keeps booting into bios. When I take the new ssd out, it boots to windows no problem. What mistakes am I making?!

Also, in replies can you use layman terms because I'm not too knowledgeable on computer settings. Thanks!

In the BIOS, make sure the boot device/boot priority is set to look at the drive with the OS on it first (or only).

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

In BIOS the only way I can set boot priority is the UEFI Hard disk, USB hard disk, usb cd/DVD, USB key, floppy, or network. I currently have it set to UEFI hard disk. As far as I know, there is no way for me to choose which drive I want to boot first other than that. Am I missing something? I attached a picture of what I see in the BIOS.

Is that picture with or without the problem drive installed? If I recall from when I had an MSI board there's another screen for boot override, but it was a bit strange as to how it behaved for me.

Both drives are installed in that picture and both are being detected (I'll attach another picture). If you recall how to get to the boot override menu, that would be great help!

if bios is in UEFI mode and your drives aren't converted/set to GPT then your PC won't boot. try disabling UEFI

I changed it to CSM mode and now I get a few more options for boot priorities than I had before. Leaving boot priority 1 as 'UEFI hard disk' still brings me back to BIOS and changing it to 'hard disk' also brings me back to BIOS.

so now you should be able to choose your ssd as booting device
