Hello everyone!

I want to build a workstation for my sister, i have built several gaming stations for my friends and family previously but never a work focused one. I have no idea what's the important parts for a workstation, should i go all the way for a beefy CPU or is it the same as a gaming pc ? My budget is i believe around 1.5k USD. She's gonna use it for 3D modelling and game design, animations and digital drawing. Please help me build a workstation.

Thank you all in advance.

For workstation use I'd recommend one of the new 5700G on a MicroATX formfactor. The Vega graphics on those will be plenty for most workstation uses and having a Ryzen 7 will be overkill for most workstation tasks. Rendering on that badboy will be a breeze and they're a great bang for your buck.

Overprevision the power supply, 660w is good, tuck away 2 of the PCIe cables down in the basement incase she ever gets into gaming or starts developement that requires a beefy graphics card, then she can easily source her own and drop it in herself, it can be a learning experience if you build it with her!

Start on a 32GB (2x 16GB) 3600Mhz memory kit, get a motherboard that has 4 slots so she can easily upgrade to 64GB if 32GB isn't enough for her workflow.

I threw together this PCPartpicker list that follows my above guidelines. $885 before a case. Can easily upgrade storage, swap ram to RGB, or go for a better motherboard. Lots of room in that budget!

Also recommend buying a used Windows key online. $110 for a key is robbery.

We'll need to know what are the software your sister uses and her workflow. Does she need to multitask? Do up concept renders? Run unreal engine smoothly? There is loads to consider before making up the parts list.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

That's right question.

@Chronified With info he provided how did you assume iGPU will be enough? 3D and Game modeling almost certainly requires capable GPU.

well homi i hope you still need that workstation but if you found a solution its fine here is a config that only costs $1513 USDs its a really good config for a Workstation for around 1.5k there is 3700x processor, 32GB ram, 500Gb of SSD storage and 2 TB of HDD storage (you can add more if you want to), a 2070 super a good all around GPU, 650W GOLD  PSU, MSI B550-A PRO Board pretty nice and I hope you have a monitor, keyboard, Mouse, and stuff cuz i cant fit anymore stuff in there without going over budget. yeah here is your link.
P.S- you might wanna over clock the GPU and CPU for more juice 😉

5600X is CPU to go, Not 3700X for that price range and 3600 RAM's will be much better, since it's only 15USD higher. Also SN550 is bad drive, Because they are changing parts in it and making it slower. Here is little edited list, That's somewhat better and little more reasonable.

Also, That is good case, But comes with only one cheap fan, So another fans are necessity, I added 4 fans in list, So 3 can be mounted as intake in front and one at back as exhaust (replacing cheap fan, It comes with)

The GPU is little complicated, It's worth trying to get better GPU, But it's really hard 😄

you are right but it depends on them to pick if they want that config or not or they can just get used one for cheaper but i dont trust used GPUs

If you test GPU well, It's safe most likely, But I don't advice buying it without any testing. Maybe if very reputable seller sells it on ebay or like that can be trusted.
