Hi guys so I am building a budget system and need your advice on whether I should go for 10105F or 3200G. I'm able to get a GTX 1660 and the price is same of the motherboards with the same features. The benchmarks are showing the same performance though 3200G has less threads and weaker cores.

Help me out by making a decision and whether I should go B460 or B560 (for intel) or B450 or B550 (for AMD) cause I want upgradability as well with pcie 4.0, OR should I wait for 12th gen/6000 series and go for older chipsets

Neither of those CPUs are capable of PCIe 4, but the B550 and B560 boards are with newer generation CPUs. Also important, the 3200G is NOT compatible with B550. It will not work. You must have X570 to get a PCIe 4 board that works with the 3200G, but again, while
the board would support it, the CPU would not.

I wouldn't even consider the 3200G with a discrete graphics card. That CPU is weaker than any other Ryzen 3000 or 5000 one. If you want to go Ryzen 3, the 3300X is the way to go. It actually does support PCIe 4, is overclockable, and is generally faster than any i3 ever.

If you do go Intel, please get a B560 board. You'll need to check if the top M.2 slot will work with 10th gen parts, but the RAM overclocking capabilities and possibly of PCIe 4 with an upgrade to something like an 11700 makes it way better than B460 ever was. The only problem is that some B560 boards are complete trash. You'll have to do some research to find the good ones that won't throttle your CPU into losing up to 50% of its performance. (No, really. The platform can be that bad)

I'd recommend getting a B550 board with a 3300X if the pricing is comparable. Most B550 boards are at least safe to get and later use with 8 core parts, and many would allow future upgrades to Ryzen 9 if you get a good one.

Hey YoungBlade but would it be better if I go with b460 board and upgrade to 12th or 13th gen?

The issue with 400 series boards from either Intel or AMD is that they do not support PCIe Gen 4. Even if you later upgrade the CPU, that won't change.

Also, to clarify, the 12th and 13th gen will be on new sockets, so current motherboards will not be compatible. Also, while 12th gen will support both DDR4 and DDR5, there's no guarantee that 13th gen will support both, so if you try to upgrade then, your RAM might not be able to go with you.

If you aren't interested in later upgrading to another CPU on the same board, I guess B460 and B450 are fine. You'll lose a bit of performance with the 10105 because you'll only be able to run the ram at 2666, but it shouldn't be a huge deal with a 4 core chip.

I know that I would need to change the board for the new lineup of chips from both companies cause of different sockets and DDR5. So I'm thinking I would go with a 3200G cause I am getting a better b450 board so more overclocking headroom. Thanks for the help guys
