I am using Logmein Hamachi to access my network remotely. But when I use remote desktop connection to remote onto my PC, when I disconnect from the session it logs the computer off knocking hamachi off so I can't reconnect to the network.

I have went into gpedit.msc and changed all the session time limits to disabled and I am still facing the same issue.

I would stop using logmein and just use a forward the port for RDP through your home router so that you can just use regular RDP without any jank. Also just enable wake on LAN for your system.

Opening RDP and WoL port to internet is not a smart idea. OP has the right idea by using a VPN but Hamachi has been a piece of crap for ages. OP one way you can get a setup like this to:

  • Rent a decent enough VPS (there are $15 annual payment servers, I can recommend one if you want)
  • Install OpenVPN using angristan's openvpn installer which takes mere seconds to set a openvpn server up.
  • Get a router that supports openvpn or more DIY project would be Raspberry Pi or even a RPIZW and install openvpn client.
  • Redirect RDP ports to your PC.
  • Redirect WoL port to your PC (there are couple way to go about this, port forwarding might not be necessary)
  • Allow your VPN ip range in the windows firewall.
  • For a total of $25 you can have a very flexible vps/vpn/network setup.

Anyways, are you certain that you arent clicking on "log off" instead of disconnect?

The reason I did this is because I was having issue setting up a VPN on Unifi because my ISP router wasn't allowing it. I set Unifi as the DMZ but still wouldn't work.

I have a Unifi Security Gateway. But also my ISP modem router which seems to be blocking ports etc for the USG. My ISP router also doesn't support Modem only mode. I have set the DMZ to the Unifi controller.
