So basically, I'm looking for the cheapest (ATX) PSU that isn't garbage. I'm planning to throw together a cheap file server for my home based around mostly used/reclaimed parts. I'm planning on using an i5-4440 (or something similar) with no dedicated GPU, 2 HDDs, and an SSD.

Right now it looks like the EVGA B5 550W is $45. I realize this isn't a top-of-the-line PSU but considering I'll never push anywhere close to that much power, I feel like it should do OK. Are there any cheaper models I should consider? This would be running 24/7 if that matters. This is my first time building a home server so let me know if I'm missing anything obvious.

Running 24/7

Get something at least from Tier A.

For safety as well as efficiency since running that much it really matters if it 90% efficient or 95%

(Not sure about your power cost but for me it was over a hundred a year (at 21cents per kWh)

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

wihtout a gpu, the b5 will suffice since your system uses around 100w while at 100% stress

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.
