extract ipod music

I have an 80gb ipod classic and I want to get everything from it while it still works, without Apple's help. I don't know my old iTunes login info and a lot (>95%) of the music was ripped from the CDs of middle school and high school friends

doesn't need to be a free program as long as it's a company with a good reputation and it'll actually grab everything, titles, artist, album covers, etc.

My memory is those things actually had little HDDs in them. I don’t know the interface though.  Might be you could still get the data after it does as long as the HDD is still alive.

Old iPods loaded and unloaded though antique versions of iTunes which very well may no longer play nice with old iPods.  My suggestion is find someone with an antique Mac.  One so old it’s not safe on the internet anymore, have them pull the data and then sneakernet it with a USB stick.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Basically just what this guide says.

Install iTunes, disable automatic syncing, plug in your iPod in external drive mode, copy the files over.

I’m also pretty sure modern I tunes just lets you extract music into your library anyway, no login required.

If modern iTunes works it works.  The antique Mac and sneakernet thing would only even possibly apply if it doesn’t.

Modern iTunes shouldn’t have any problems with old iPods. I can still plug my 2nd gen touch into a modern pc with current iTunes, my dads 160gb 5.5 gen classic also works fine

apple is pretty good with backwards compatibility

Modern versions of iTunes don't have any issues with old iPods. I think macOS still supports the original iPod.
