Hey guys, so I have a uad apollo twin which has a thunderbolt 2 connection. I’m about to by my very first custom pc and I am concerned about comparability issues between my audio interface and the pc, which I will be using for recording and creating music

I was planning on buying a asus x570f mother board but I found out it doesn’t have internal thunderbolt connections

i quickly found out about the asus B550E motherboard which does have an internal thunderbolt connection.

As the connection on the mother board io has usb c and not Thunderbolt I wouldn’t be able to use it unless I use this adapter I found from Apple, here is the link:

Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M72VEQR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_QNAH9882AAXXKEM3PMEJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I just want to confirm this would in fact work as I intent it to, I would plug it into the audio usb c port on the io

if not, I have looked at getting a pcie thunderbird expansion card, here is the link:

GIGABYTE GC-TITAN RIDGE 2.0 (Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 PCIe Card Component) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08BC11XW8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_V6A9TMZBCTN12C1P0614?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I just want to make sure either of these options would this work for audio as intended before I purchase ?!?!

any help would be brilliant thank you !!

My understanding is that thunderbolt is a deeper more connected thing than other types of ports and while x570 boards can sometimes use thunderbolt cards those cards often have to be built specifically for that particular motherboard and visa versa. I don’t know if the card you describe is one such or not.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Agree with @Bombastinator

Ok so,

As of right now thunderbolt is pretty clunky on pc and a device from one company generally doesn't work well with others

the cheapest all in one package i can think of is b550 proart creator from asus, it doesn't need add in card bcs it's integrated to the motherboard and cost close to $300

it may sound much but if you buy a b550-E which around the same price you need to add the dedicated pcie thunderbolt card Which cost you around another $120

and from what i heard those card need quite a lot of tinkering to make it work...

Hi guys,

Just an update, for anyone else looking to do the same as I have, the x570 asus pro art motherboard I bought was totally fine! it worked seamilessly!

cable wise, I just used the thunderbolt 2 adapter from apple, and a thunderbolt two cable.

Here is the link for the adaptor for anyone interested:

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMEL2AM/A/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-to-thunderbolt-2-adapter?fnode=7633b4b43fa6a94cc0b921de526e96404b1c86aac67298bcb48e364f7f660c5ade5c13e4c7bb45f5846003c012f3e4f82aefd0c95a312646a76126edfad54dd0dcab355570905b41720746a42cb85d6803b1dd312a965cc2d2784b12265a4f42

The only issue I had was with discord. from my research, the issue was to do with Uad using aio drivers? and discord using wdm drivers I believe? I cant remember the exact name of them, but it resulted in my audio being crackly and all messed up, it kept cutting out and i sounded like a robot. Anyways, I followed this great tutorial on youtube which I will also link. I use two bits of software called Qjack and Voice metre bannana with discord and it works flawlessly!

Heres that video:

 Thanks everyone for your help
