Hello, I work for a big company in Canada and have had lots of issues with our remote workstations and over 2 months and our IT dept. still can’t troubleshoot so I need suggestions and support.

I won’t be able to give out too much information which isn’t helpful, and I assume that it’s probably a network accessibility problem.

we’re running HP Elite Desk G3’s to build software, load it onto USBs and ship to our clients.

back in June I randomly stopped being able to remote connect to the computers (I just get a black screen and then I’m stuck there forever, sometimes it’ll kick me off for some protocol error)

So I would run into the office to levy the remote connect temporarily but now I can’t even transfer the software to our USBs.

our IT dept. has verified no security is blocking the data transfer, it simply seems like the computer won’t even start transferring (no errors pop up) but it’ll often say 0bytes / second and more than 1 day on estimate time.  We left it over a weekend but even then it only made it to 20% (before we could typically copy over 7 USBs at a time in 3 hours).

the only other alerting thing is that the PC idols at 100% cpu usage.

I know it’s probably like finding a needle in the haystack with the information I can provide but if I could get any direction it’d probably be enough to shake the heads of our guys.

I'd start by escalating to you manager, or their manager if appropriate. 2 months without IT resolution on an issue that impacts your ability to do your job seems pretty unacceptable IMO.

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

maybe but not necessarily

-did you run a anti virus scan (full system)?

-which AV?

-did you also run a malwarebyte scan (full)?

-did you reset CMOS?

-did you try turning it off and on? (seriously)

i mean i supoose this information isnt too "sensitive"? But kinda needed anyway.

-last thing, did you try reinstalling windows ?

On a sidenote, im also having issues to understand why "IT" would be incapable to determine "what" causes the 100% cpu usage… i mean that sounds like an easy fix?! TBH

I have lol, my manager, our IT guy and manager, our partner in the US and their manager are all aware of the problem.

I like to think I’m more tech savvy than the average so I could totally be wrong in thinking corporate computers are not run the same as personal.  I have begged and pleaded about the idoling CPU usage but they keep ignoring it thinking it may have to do with user permissions.

these are to my knowledge, brand new computers.

1) I’ve not run any anti virus

2) there’s macafee installed (oh god) but my pretty sure it’s not actually running

3) no malwarebytes, I can’t install anything onto the computer.

4) you lost me on CMOS

5) yes I have in fact turned it off and back on. Our network automatically restarts all computers after 4 days so they’re always updating.

6) that’s what I imagine has to be done but waiting for IT to pull the trigger, we received a brand new unit yesterday to try and fix the problem but it seems like we still can’t remote  connect

I mean, there isn't a big difference aside from they'll be all connected  to a specific network and some permissions... "technically" its the same computers, with the same bugs, quirks and, viruses (don't ask me how, but I've seen it, on "highly sensitive" work pcs...)

Lol, I see you're working with pros... (my god)

Ok, that's bad.

yeah, so these guys are they physically there...? i mean this is what I'd do, work computer or otherwise.

Well, its a very basic troubleshooting measure, that kinda has to be done one of the first things.

Good! At least. 🙂

I see, maybe its something  with the network,  it was just things I'd obviously  try first, because it all kinda sounds like hardware,  or malware,  just stuff we do and figure out here a lot, but you're  right,  *that* part might work differently in a work environment  (even tho where i worked previously that wasn't so, our "IT" would rather fix stuff than buy anything new, still proudly using XP too 👍 🤣 )

Yea I can’t troubleshoot on the account that every thing I do ~including opening task manager~ is met with admin restrictions.

seeing that I’ve been the only person to touch these computers (before IT set them up with enterprise systems) I seriously doubt there’s any viruses or malware as these are very barebones machines.

notable CPU hogs include:

reamed

system interruptions

edpa.exe

Keyview oop

also carbon black but I’ve figured out what that is
