Hi, I am wondering if it’s worth upgrading/possible for my pc. I mainly play games on my PlayStation but from time to time I play some pc games (in 1080p and 144hz if possible).

I use my pc for video editing also!

Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card, and what card would you recommend (thinking about bottlenecking). And do you recommend any cpu? (Basically I’m looking if there are any upgrades available to let me improve graphics/FPS in games). Is getting a second gtx 970 and doing sli an option? (Even though I probably have to upgrade PSU then).

Or should I wait a year or two and get a completely new pc when the new graphics cards hopefully are cheaper?

My current build is:

(PSU) Cooler Master B500

(CPU) Intel core i5-4690

(Motherboard) Msi B85-G43 Gaming

(Ram) HyperX Savage Ddr3 1600Mhz 24GB

I'd say look at cpu/mobo/ram upgrades and do gpu later when prices are lower.

Big nerd.

Very much so that 4590 is not going to be gaming at those fps today. It;s also just not going to deliver stable gaming without stuttering it's just not good enough anymore.

I wouldn't focus on upgrading the GPU right now. Not only is it a bad time to do so, your CPU is in need of an upgrade. Your GTX 970 should be alright for a while longer if paired with something more powerful than the i5 you have right now.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

Polaris: Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASRock X79 Extreme6, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 1TB Crucial MX500, 750W Corsair RM750, Antec SX635, Windows 10 Pro

Pluto: Intel Core i7-2600, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASUS P8Z68-V, 4GB XFX AMD Radeon RX 570, 8GB ASUS AMD Radeon RX 570, 1TB Samsung 860 EVO, 3TB Seagate BarraCuda, 750W EVGA BQ, Fractal Design Focus G, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

York (NAS): Intel Core i5-2400, 16GB 1600MHz DDR3, HP Compaq OEM, 240GB Kingston V300 (boot), 3x2TB Seagate BarraCuda, 320W HP PSU, HP Compaq 6200 Pro, TrueNAS CORE (12.0)

The gtx 970 is still perfectly fine for 1080p gaming on new games, it's a little old but it's not weak, it's not much worse than the gtx 1060/RX 570. if you have the money build a new system tho tbh, don't just upgrade the gpu. If you do upgrade I would get something significantly better like an rtx 2060/2070/3060 or 6600xt and a new cpu mobo if you want high refresh rate.
